[Interview] SpankzOnline meets Music artiste "MisterKay".

SpankzOnline meets fast rising music act "Mister Kay" (@MisterKay_). We had a little time out with him and this convo really tells us that Kay isn't only a talented artiste but also an Intellectual one. You can also get a couple of songs by Mister Kay on the blog right after this. Read through and Enjoy!

1) Yo Mister Kay! Whats good.
Everything Bro I'm wayy up I feel blessed .

2) Can you just tell us a bit about yourself, background and all that?
Well a lot of people don't know me by my full name I'm Adekite Alalade , From Lagos and from a home that loves our indigenous music. I basically grew up listening to Fela, lucky dube, sunny ade just to name a few I didn't start music in a church sadly but I started music in a small corner in my living room where I taught myself how to play the keyboard and finally at some point I could create and I started writing music that's when I met my producer (G.Wheen) he has nurtured and encouraged me basically so far.

3) So for How long have you been into music
Wow well for about 3 years now I've been doing music constantly working on myself and doing the music I want to do and not have to do

4) What do you feel about the current state of the nigerian underground music at large, is there anything that irritates you or something a little bit pleasing?
Well the Nigerian underground music scene interests me a lot well I basically feel we are blinded by what we see that the ''blown artist'' do. I can boldly tell you that some artists have been running on loss for the last year but put up another image for us but that's showbiz basically ..
I sincerely feel the media isn't helping the underground artists cause blogs don't even put up music based on content but rather pockets . I'm excited about the talent coming up the likes of tay , haywire , lady Donli , G.wheen , Nino whizz , traze just to name a few keeps me excited

5) So what exactly are your plans and how do you intend to influence the industry at large?
I won't let out a lot but I'm currently working on my project set to drop this year and a WMG compilation album, early in the year I released an EP Rise TO Fame and it was a success you can cop it here on spankz . I got major collaborations coming and new videos . The industry needs a  better distribution system but definitely we are gradually reaching there .

6) Are there any challenges that have been slowing you down one way or the other, or something you just feel has been like a burden to you so far?
I won't say there's a particular thing slowing me down sincerely I feel as artist we should take full responsibility for our mistakes and not blame it on certain factors .

7) What do you feel about the present congestion in the underground scene.
It's exciting , the underground scene is so congested due to people doing music for the wrong reasons but the best part is it keeps you on your toes; slack one bit and
you fall off cause they're cats out there aiming for your spot .

8) what do you think most upcoming artistes lack?
Most upcoming artist lack the knowledge of their music like fela once said "play with music and you will die young"

9) What are the certain attributes you think an artiste should possess, If he/she is "Made for Music" or not.
The ability to understand music as a business and not just talent and also having some knowledge in production that's my personal opinion

10) whats your idea of a good record deal?
Full creative freedom, 70/30 percent profit share in favour of the artist and rights to all songs produced under the label . This is imaginary though lol

11) If you were to start up a label of 6 underground artistes and 1 underground producer, who will these guys be?
Wow hard question let's see well I will sign Myself , Zilla , G.wheen , Erad, 9ytro and JI.
For production I will sign beats by Jayy or ENI beats can't pick. This is in no order.

12) If Twitter was shut down or probably never existed, how do you think underground music artistes will find their way up or what do you think is an alternative
means of underground music gaining more audience other than social media platforms.
I can't deny the fact that social media has helped my career a lot . Social media is a blessing to our generation but it shouldn't be your purpose of creating music . Music should be so much more . What's the essence of getting a few thousand downloads and the ordinary boy on the street doesn't know you but you're an Internet sensation in your room . I just feel we should come out more as upcoming acts, host shows , make up our own radio stations (online) , our own little industry
of creatives till we get to our destination .

13)How do you judge the general support towards underground music online, do you think its appreciated? (Pls explain why if yes or No?)
I don't feel it's appreciated as much as it should a lot of us are way better than some "blown acts" the least that could be done is to at least acknowledge upcoming acts with awards ,
recognition and opportunities to reach the fullest potential.

14) So what other profession do you think is really needed by underground music acts, but there are just a few of them.
Bro for sure I could easily tell you it's promotion . In Nigerian music scene promotion is key very key

15) And do you really think its worth it? why?
It's worth it cause the industry has carved us to need it cause with the amount of pure talent we posses underground you can easily understand that what's lacking is promotion which leads to opportunities .

16) So do you have any Shout outs to anyone out there?
Shoutout to blackmagic he has been supporting me since day 1 we got something for Yall coming soon*very lowkks , shoutout to G.wheen and the whole WMG crew , Zilla , black elite , Vicki ,The shonubis , lady Donli and Elev8 Digital Media and to all my listeners ,
fans and supporters YALL are the best

17) Also any advice for your fellow artistes in the game too?
Well I strongly believe we should join hands together and make it to the top cause the battle can't be fought alone .

18) Alright then, Thank you very much for being with us today. God bless!
Thanks for having me spankz online and we appreciate what you're doing for the underground scene bless .
